Using AddThis with Flash

As I have posted recently, my (former) sharing service of choice was ShareThis. No really good reason for that choice actually, just came by their service first, and it worked like a charm. But now it doesn’t anymore (update: well it does again, but there were problems), so I looked around for alternatives.

The largest such (might even be larger than ShareThis) is AddThis. Their API is incredibly simple, as you can actually share anything by giving a simply link to their site with url and title of what to share.

The simplest way to share via AddThis is by opening a link like this:

http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.barklund.org%2Fblog%2F2009%2F06%2F08%2Fusing-addthis-with-flash%2F&title=Barklund.org%20-%20Using%20AddThis%20with%20Flash

Integrating this into an example like my previous for ShareThis is then of course very simple as well – encode URL and title, append to URL of AddThis bookmarking page and open this page in a popup of the proper size (found by experiment). See example here.

Hej, – kan du sige mig hvordan man kan bestemme hvilke services der skal være i popuppen når man bruger addthis på denne måde?

    Hi Kasper,

I’m afraid that you cannot customize the services available in the pop-up – at least I cannot figure out a way to do it. The only thing I can figure out is to insert a logo (by adding a logo-parameter to the query string with the path to an image) or by displaying a larger list (by removing the v-parameter, which might be some version number).

There might be a way, but in that case it is not publicly disclosed :)

You might need to try the ShareThis option as mentioned in my other post: http://www.barklund.org/blog/2009/05/06/using-sharethis-with-flash/

Thanks for posting this, but is there’s any way we can customize bookmarks?
