App Idea Store – January 2010 Ideas
The seventh idea for my 365 social ideas is a community website idea: Create an online forum to share ideas for mobile applications. Some ideas cost money to buy, some ideas earn you money if you implement, some are completely free for the fun of it. It should be a site, that in most ways were based on trust, and it needn’t in itself facilitate the exchange of money, but should build trustworthy relationships between owners of ideas and creators of apps.
Mobile application platforms aren’t that many, but still there exists at least 5 interesting such: iPhone, Palm, Windows Mobile, Symbion or JavaME. Very few providers of online services (e.g. Zyb) implement apps for all these platforms, most target only the 1 or 2 platforms, that they are related to by business or market segment.
The idea is to create a virtual forum with the main purpose to bring together programmers, concept developers, business people, creatives etc. – anyone having any interest in developing new cool mobile applications.
The site could probably have three main sections:
- Free ideas: mashup and collaboration, where people just blurt out whatever they think of and cool projects arise from some of them.
- Ideas for sale: idea overviews, for which the concept developer wants to be paid or at least receive royalties for his concept.
- Apps needed: idea descriptions, for which business persons are willing to pay money to have the ideas developed. This will probably be mobile versions of existing services.
I already have many fun ideas for mobile apps and a lot of them will be featured here in future posts.
Why?
We all have great ideas for applications. Personally, I have developed the idea about a business card to phone book contact scanner a long time ago with a friend, but in the end neither of us could nor wanted to implement it back then and now several such have appeared. But if we back then actually had a place to share and collaborate about this idea, we could have aided in someone’s development of this and maybe gotten credit for inventing the idea (not that we were the first in the world at all). It will provide a forum for making up the most crazy ideas and actually see them realized on whatever platform the implementer likes the most.
What’s next?
Do with this idea whatever you like – expand, implement, trash or forget. Just remember, that if you use it in anyway make sure to attribute me according to the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License, that all these 365 Social Ideas are published under.

Why not just a marketplace for ideas in general – all you have to do is DM (several) (a) bot(s), much like @rebootresearch from reboot11 – the admin of the account will then put the idea on a wiki, or maybe better, create a wave

Hm well, generalized ideas are too broad IMO. It should be quite specific in order to attract enough people with ideas and knowledge in the same area of expertise.
