Appcelerator – January 2010 Ideas

The eighth idea for my 365 social ideas is the first mobile app to appear here: The Appcelerator (okay, I admit, I am not good to come up with names for stuff). It is a very simple app, that will combine two of the main features of modern smartphones: accelerometer and GPS-tracking, and the result is a fun game about dominating the largest area with your phones acceleration, altitude or speed.

It is a simple game, where you activate the application and ask it to track how fast it is currently travelling or accelerating and at what altitude. Then, your result will be compared with other at the same coordinates and you will be total within how big a circle, that you dominate, e.g. “Your acceleration of 34 m/s^2 (3.5G) is the fastest acceleration within 140 km” or “Your altitude of 11453 feet is the highest achieved within 305 miles”. It has the simplest app interface ever and can only track these three parameteres and then display at what coordinates you hold different records.

Why?

Because it’s fun. See how fast you can throw your phone, see if it will accelerate even fast in a car, in a roller-coaster, in a speed boat or whatever you have available.

What’s next?

Do with this idea whatever you like – expand, implement, trash or forget. Just remember, that if you use it in anyway make sure to attribute me according to the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License, that all these 365 Social Ideas are published under.

You should have been at Copenhagen Cocoa Developer Conference, check this list of awesome people that can build things like that in a weekend: http://twitter.com/#/list/stkhlm/ccdc

I bet – this is another low-hanging fruit, that I would love to see implemented in the wild ;)
